A yellow model of a recumbent phoenix its claws and tail feathers tucked beneath its body, the bird facing forward with its crested head and wings well defined, the stone with russet and grey inclusions .

Provenance: Formerly in the estate of Kenneth Snowman

Reference: Knapton Rasti Asian Art, Chinese Works of Art, London, 2002, no.80, page 51. This example from the Alfred and Ivy Clark Collections comes from the same group as the above phoenix. The heads are in different positions but the stone and the subtlety of the carving are similar.
